Preparing everyone for the MCA tests
Thanks to Mrs. Jeanne Bymark and her FAC’S classes for remembering the teachers and all that they do to prepare our students to do well on our MCA tests. The 10th graders prepared to take their tests this week and as a show of their support for our staff, prepared goodie bags and some morning treats for the teachers as they start their testing.
The month of April is a busy month for testing for all grades and, as always, we want to prepare our students and faculty for this busy and very important time. The faculty and administration of Hibbing High School would like to wish all students and faculty the best of luck with these tests.
Mr. Hudelson’s and Ms. Clusiau’s 3rd grade students had the opportunity to study different landforms this spring. One of the projects that they could do was to make an example of certain landforms using homemade clay and other materials. Nice job to all of the students!
K-2 Jr. ‘Jackets
Throughout the school year staff at the Greenhaven and Washington Elementary Schools have been working very hard to teach and promote Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS) and pride in our school communities. During the year, teachers have received information on the Olweus Bully Prevention program. They have also incorporated “Classroom Meetings That Matter” lessons, which started after the winter break. These lessons are taught in the K-2 classrooms concerning bullying, tolerance, understanding, conflict resolution, character building, etc. every other week. Each of the classes created posters with their class photo and our School’s Anti-Bullying Rules to show their support and understanding of the rules.
Along with the classroom lessons, we have been utilizing “Project Wisdom Morning Messages”. Each morning a staff member or guest reader reads a message to the students based on tolerance, pride, character and community building. At the very end of each message the students hear: “Make it a great day or not, the choice is yours”. These daily messages help to develop an understanding that each of us are responsible for our own words and actions and that we can control how we approach each day through the choices we make and the attitude we have. If you would like to be a ‘guest reader’, stop in at our office to sign up and reserve your day.
Many of you have seen the PRIDE posters that have been on display at our schools and out in the community at local businesses. At the elementary sites, we have also incorporated the district Pride posters and have created an ‘elementary version’ of the acronym definitions. In addition we have created ‘expectation posters’ that are located throughout our buildings. These posters promote common expectations we have for our cafeteria, hallways, classrooms, playground, etc.. Students have taken responsibility and pride in their school community and realize that we all work very hard together to make our buildings a safe and enjoyable place to learn.
Students have been honored and recognized throughout the year as Students of the Month for showing positive leadership, character, and responsibility.
On behalf of the staff, I want to thank our parents and community members in helping to reinforce our efforts in the schools. The lessons our K-2 students learn at this young age will be a strong foundation for their growth as teenagers, young adults and responsible citizens in the community for years to come.
